Commissioned work

Spring Leaves and ... Autumn Leaves

Simple suncatchers for a small space.

Here the reflection on the background accentuates the texture of the antique glass.

The Bell Tower

This panel was commissioned as a retirement present for a headteacher, depicting her favourite part of the school building - the bell tower - with the clock showing the end of the school day. Made exclusively from English Antique Glass the panel is painted and stained. The glass forming the bell tower has been sandblasted for an opaque quality compared to the sky and roof top. Verre eglomise (painting on the back as well as the front of the glass) creates a three dimensional quality to the structure. The fleur-de-lys from the school emblem is incorporated in the roof tiles.

Front Door Light

An interesting house, of the Arts and Crafts period, required a new light above the front door. The entrance to the house is below street level and as illustrated in the photograph of the original door below, not much natural light is afforded given also the set back position.

In designing the new window I aimed to be sympathetic to the architecture as well as to the available light, and took inspiration from some Arts and Crafts tiles on the facing wall of this and adjacent houses.

The following photos show the finished window in situ.

Wedding Present

A panel commissioned by the parents of the bride. The Holy Spirit represented by the dove is sandblasted to enhance the colours within the glass by creating a degree of opalescence. This effect can be seen clearly within the 'techniques' section.

Tread Lightly

A panel commissioned by Hitchin Girls' School Young Environmental Society. This panel incorporates many techniques including painting, staining, sandblasting, acid etching and plating. English antique mouthblown glass and some 'leftovers' work well together in this piece with a message.
